Submission Guidelines

We warmly welcome submissions from poets and storytellers across the world.

We accept:

  • Poetry in all forms, including free verse, ekphrastic poetry, sonnets, haiku, ghazals, prose poetry, spoken word pieces, and experimental poetry.
  • Short stories of any genre.
  • Flash fiction.

Submission Requirements:

  • All submissions must be the author's original, unpublished work. The works should not be published online (in any mode, including blogs).
  • AI-generated or AI-assisted synthetic writing is not accepted. We are committed to publishing authentic human voices and original literary expression.
  • Authors may submit multiple works in a single submission, provided each piece is clearly separated.
  • Please proofread your work before submitting.
  • The copyright remains with the author.
  • Simultaneous submissions are accepted; however, you must inform us immediately if your article is accepted for publication elsewhere.

Anonymized Submissions

To ensure a fair and impartial peer review process, all manuscripts must be fully anonymized before submission. Please remove all identifying information, including the author's name, institutional affiliation, acknowledgements, self-identifying references, and any metadata that could reveal the author's identity. Submissions that are not anonymized may be returned to the author for revision before being sent for peer review.

Kindly Note:

  • We accept a maximum of 3–4 submissions from a single author per reading period.
  • There are no submission or publication fees.
  • We accept only works written in English.
  • We welcome translations into English. However, only the English translation will be published. It is the submitter's responsibility to obtain any necessary copyright permissions from the copyright holder of the source text before submission.
  • Please include the following in the subject line of your submission email:
    FirstName_LastName_Genre
    For example: Nirvana_Sharma_Essay
  • By submitting your work to us, you grant us First Serial Rights to publish it and Archival Rights to retain it permanently on our website. Full credit will always be given to you as the author. Once your work has been published, all rights revert to you. If the work is later republished elsewhere, we ask that you acknowledge The Simla Review as the original publisher.
  • Contributors to the Inaugural Issue will receive a PDF containing only the recto and verso pages of the journal featuring their published work. A complete PDF of the issue will not be provided. This policy applies only to the Inaugural Issue.

Payment and Contributor Compensation

We do not offer monetary payment for accepted work, nor do we charge contributors any submission, reading, publication, processing, or other fees. Participation is entirely voluntary, and there is no financial obligation on the part of contributors.

The first edition won’t be made available in print form.

Our foremost aim with The Simla Review is to bring the best of contemporary literature from around the world to this platform.
